Dr. Welty is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult Psychiatry, and she is also board-certified in child and adolescent psychiatry. She maintains an active practice in both adult and pediatric psychiatry in the Naples area of Long Beach, California (Los Angeles County). She has been in practice for over 24 years evaluating and treating adults, adolescents, and children.
Dr. Welty received her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City and completed her residency training in adult psychiatry at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. Dr. Welty also completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where she served as Chief Fellow.
Dr. Welty is a current member and past chair of the Pediatrics Ambulatory Committee. She also serves on the ethics committee at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. She holds a faculty position in the Department of Pediatrics at UCI College of Medicine, and teaches pediatric and family medicine residents on topics in adult and child psychiatry.
Dr. Welty is a member of several professional organizations, including the Southern California Psychiatry Society and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Since joining the staff at Miller Children's Hospital in 1994, she has twice received the Physician of the Year award. She maintains an active practice seeing adult and pediatric patients.
Dr. Welty has a thorough understanding of adult and pediatric psychopharmacology. She has worked extensively with adult and pediatric patients who present with complex medical illness along with their psychiatric symptoms. She also has expertise evaluating and treating adult and pediatric patients with mood disorders, ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, and Somatoform Disorders. She has specialized skills in managing psychiatric issues associated with pervasive developmental disorders in adults and children.
